Previously he was the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He was also the Non-Executive Chairman at National Stock Exchange, Stock Holding Corporation of India, LIC Housing Finance Ltd, LIC International EC Bahrain, and LIC Nepal Ltd. Mr. Bajpai was also the Chairman of Indian's National Pension Trust Board and has served as the Governing Board of Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.
